ACUPUNCTURE:
We also offer Acupuncture. Acupuncture is one of the oldest healing practices in the world, originated in ancient China more than 2,000 years ago. Acupuncture is a safe, drug-free way to prevent and treat disease, relieve pain, increase fertility, and improve overall health and wellness. Acupuncture is based on the knowledge of vital energy flow to the whole body. This energy travels through pathways called meridian or channel (they are similar but not identical to the nervous and blood circulatory systems). Once this energy is deficient or blocked, then the body stops functioning normally and will eventually become sick.
By inserting needles into specific points along the meridians, the energy flow is restored and it will strengthen or promote energy circulation smoothly, unblock the stagnation in the meridians, and the body returns to its normal function to heal naturally.
Acupuncture is the insertion of thin sterile needles into specific points to create an effect. Each point has a specific function and will create a different effect when stimulated. Recent research indicates that there is a synergistic effect when multiple points are stimulated simultaneously. This research supports the art of point combinations, choosing what combination of points will have the most positive outcome. There is some sensation when the needles are first inserted, but most people are hardly aware of the needles once they are inserted.
In acupuncture, with a very thin needles can aid muscle recovery and its popularity is on the rise. Acupuncture, the Chinese oldest technique in inserting tiny needles into the skin along specific points on the body to treat musculoskeletal conditions, infertility, respiratory conditions, migraines, neurological problems, muscle tears, sprains, tendinitis, tennis elbow, knee pain, carpal tunnel syndrome etc.
Acupuncture is a treatment based on the principle of TCM. Evidence showed that acupuncture can stimulate the production of substance which are beneficial to health and promote healing.
When you come for an acupuncture treatment, you will have an initial evaluation. It mainly includes examining your tongue, checking the quality of your pulse and general observation of your condition. Sometimes, other parts of the body could be examined. We would also ask you questions about your lifestyle, medical history, general health status, and current complaints. The information obtained contributes to making TCM diagnosis and formulating treatment plan.
During treatment, very fine sterilized and disposable needles are inserted into different acu-points. The needles will be rotated periodically. Sometimes, they are connected to a safe electrical current, which may cause a soothing sensation. Other techniques, such as moxabustion (warm needle) and cupping may be used for certain conditions. After the needle is inserted, a patient usually feels some tingling, distension, heaviness, or electrical sensation at the insertion site or traveling up and down the meridian. Acupuncture is safe and has no significant side effects as compared to other kinds of treatment.
As to how many treatments a patient will need depends on the condition. Acute or temporary problems may just need a few treatments. Chronic conditions may need regular treatments over several months. One may start out with several treatments per week, then decrease to weekly / monthly treatments. Each session usually lasts about 45 to 60 minutes.
TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE
TCM is a time honored, holistic and natural healing system developed over the last 5000 years. It places great emphasis on illness cure, prevention and rejuvenation. It cures disease by tapping into our bodies’ self-healing power. Acupuncture and herbal medicine therapy are the two main components of TCM. It sometimes calls for Tuina (Chinese massage) and forms of meditative, low impact martial arts; such as Tai Chi and Qi Gong.
The concept of balance in yin and yang is the principal philosophy of TCM.
Yin means darkness. In darkness, life comes to a rest, a motionless state when body quietly rejuvenates with the nourishment it receives. In health science, yin analogs a decrease in physiological and motor functions for the preservation of energy, organ repair, absorption and storage of nutrition. On the other hand, excessive yin is like a pond in the shade, where dampness and coldness prevail. Excessive inactivity leads to decrease in energy production and accumulation of pathological wastes; such as phlegm, mucous, fluid and fat.
Yang means the sun. In the brightness of the sun, people engage in activities, constantly using and producing energy to meet the challenge from both the modern society and natural existing pathogens. In health science, yang analogs an increase in physiological and motor functions, which breaks down the material components of our bodies to fuel these activities. Overabundance of yang is like a fire in the wilderness, which burns down all the lives. Excessive activity would exhaust our bodies’ resources which includes the material components, nourishment and fluid.
Only through the quest for balance in yin and yang can we reach the state of optimal health. It is a state with balance in anabolism (building up) and catabolism (breaking down), a mind with balance in aimlessness and purposefulness and a life with balance in rest and activity.
Our mission is to help people lead a healthy life style, to regain their self-healing potential, and to rediscover the healing remedies our Mother Nature has given us for generations before. By achieving this, we, as a society will not have to rely solely on the expensive chemicals and surgeries. We will have more affordable health care which integrates natural healing with modern medical science.
